There was a time when it was rare to glean rare insights and words of wisdom from people we hold in high esteem and admire, and even rarer to access these gems for free, but in the way of things today, technology has created many ways in which we can create global connections, even with those seemingly out of reach. TED talks, which are influential talks by expert speakers, always have new insights and ways of broaching topics that make you think, or rethink, how you consider certain things.
Recently, I came across a talk from Emily Esfahani Smith, titled “There is More To Life Than Being Happy”. Naturally I was intrigued by the subject of the talk, so I decided to watch, and share my insights.
The basic gist is this: We have this idea that we find happiness in little things we can tick off in our head: what we have achieved, how much money we have, places we want to go, when we buy this house or that car, and so on. We end up chasing these things and often times, we are left still feeling empty and unfulfilled. However, the key to living a fulfilling life isn’t chasing happiness but instead, finding your purpose, and using that purpose as a way to help and uplift others.
Simple, but powerful stuff.
It made me think about our purpose at Paga.

How the fear of failure has never intimidated us but instead spurred us on to better learn how to do things better.

We have only just begun to scratch the surface of our mission, but keeping focused on our purpose means we are constantly re-inspired by our vision, and that when we think about new products and services, we make sure they are consistent to our ethos.
